For some reason I have gotten into the old black powder and antique guns lately. I found these kits from Traditions. It got fairly good reviews do I decided to give it a try. You can find the link below. I picked up the percussion version as the flintlock can be a little more finicky or so I have read from the research I did.
I ordered the Traditions Deerhunter in .50 caliber as I wanted to use it for hunting. It came with an unfinished stock and unfinished barrel.

I stained the stock and finished it with some matte polyurethane. I also just used the bluing kit you can pick up at your local sporting good store and it worked pretty well.
The only issues I ran into was some of the screws were the wrong length and a few stripped. I just ran to Home Depot and picked them up and used those instead of the screws it came with. In case anyone else runs into this the screws that hold in the lock plate are M4-.7 x 40mm and the ones for the sights are M3-.5 x 6mm. I couldn’t find this info anywhere so it took a bit of trial and error to find them.
After I got it all together it ended up looking pretty good.

I haven’t shot it yet but, will post a review once I do.
