It came to my attention there was some rust in the lower trunk area of the 300D so I called up a buddy of mine to help me do the repair.

I ordered the patch panel from online somewhere and we took a chalk drawing of where we were going to cut and transferred that on to the patch panel and cut it out.
The patch panel only covered the side curvature of the of the trunk area so we used some of the metal my friend had laying around to replace part of the flat part of the trunk area and then welded that piece in first.
My friend also had a pneumatic lapping tool we used to inset the patch panel to make it sit even with the original metal. We then made a couple of spot welds to hold it in to place and welded the patch panel in place. We had to be careful not to warp the metal so we welded for a little bit at a time and then let the metal cool.

As you can see, we ended up not cutting the piece long enough to cover the gap we cut out. I cut out a small piece of the panel I had left and welded that in to cover the gap.
It ended up turning out OK and now I just need to put some body filler on it and prime it. That way it will hold out until I can repaint the whole car.
