Well this is one of those times where you just have to cut your losses and move on to the next project.
I traded the 81 diesel Mercedes for a 73 Super Beetle. It seemed like a fun thing to drive around. It was a manual transmission and an Air-Cooled engine. Which is kind of neat, no radiator or coolant required. These are also really easy to maintain and I have heard stories of my friends swapping engines on the side of the road in order to get home.
Here are a couple of pictures:

Looks nice from the outside right? Well if you don’t know about these cars….which I did not at the time…is that they are notorious for rusting.
VW used foam in between the layers to make the car quieter. This foam holds water and causes the car to rust from the inside out.
This particular beetle drove around fine when I test drove it, but once I got on the highway it would overheat due to an oil leak and the air cooling fins having mud in them. This was gonna be way to much work or at least more than I wanted to take on at the moment.
I ended up selling it and moving on to a better project in better shape….another Mercedes Diesel.
